Science at Shrubland Street
Our aim is to deliver a science curriculum which encourages children’s curiosity whilst also developing their scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding. We want to equip children with skills and knowledge that will last a lifetime and allow them to make direct links with the world around them.
At Shrubland Street, we believe it is important to balance knowledge-based learning with practical enquiry. Each year group at Shrubland Street receives one full afternoon per week dedicated to the teaching of science. This allows us to create memorable moments that inspire and challenge pupils. Whilst they are immersed in all things science, pupils have the opportunity to discuss their ideas and ask plenty of questions. These conversations are designed to develop speaking and listening skills through oracy and encourage the critical thinking required of a scientist.
We would like our science curriculum to have a lasting impact on our learners, whether they go on to be world renowned scientists or not. When they leave us in key stage 2, we would like them to leave with a love of science; to know how it fits into their world and to be equipped with the skills necessary to be independent thinkers and confident questioners.
