Homework
All of the children from Year 1 to Year 6 will recieve weekly maths and english homework. Within this homework the children are given a set of GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling) based tasks which are based on gaps identified in the children’s learning or from learning in class during that week.
Maths homework is weekly calculation and reasoning practise, based on the learning that has been completed in class that week.
Children are given weekly spelling practise using the website/app 'Spelling Shed'. This spelling practise is centered around carefully selected word lists and engaging activities providing opportunities to incorporate phonics and meaning to strengthen spelling skills and build vocabulary acquisition. All spelling practise is linked to spellings taught in school that week.
We also expect the children to read regularly at home. We recommend the children read each book twice, once to decode and discuss the meaning of any new words and once to answer questions about what they have read.
Pupils from Year 2 onwards use the Accelerated Reader Program and are able to 'quiz' their books after they have read them. More information about AR can be found on our Accelerated Reader page.
If you have any thoughts or questions about homework, please speak to your child's class teacher.
