Suspension and Permanent Exclusion.
It is recognised that good discipline in schools is vital. The decision to exclude a pupil is a very serious matter which only the school head teacher, or delegated authority, can undertake. The decision to exclude a pupil must be lawful, reasonable and fair. The head teacher may decide to exclude a pupil only when he/she is sure that:
- The pupil has broken the school’s behaviour policy (the school rules)
- And/or if the pupil remaining in school would seriously harm the education or welfare of the pupil or others in the school

Support for Parents & Carers
Warwickshire County Council have been working in partnership with The University of Warwick, Bailey Wright and Co Solicitors and Warwickshire Parent Carer Voice to create a resource that families can use to better understand the law and their rights.
The resource can be accessed via this link and has been created to help parents, guardians and carers to understand what school exclusions are, how to prevent them through early intervention and what to expect.
All schools and WCC in line with guidance must inform parents/carers about the process of this film out to help support parents/carers through the process.
WCC will be sharing this film with any parent/carer whose child is suspended or excluded.
Warwickshire’s webpage for School Exclusions can be accessed here.
