Space Camps at Shrubland Street
How it began...
Back in 2013, Mrs Poole and Mrs Whittaker launched the Space Camp programme initially just at Shrubland Street. They now receive funding from the Stephen Hawking Foundation enabling access to space camps to a wider number of children across the UK.
What are Space Camps?
Space Camps are evening, space themed workshops, which we run in the Phizz Lab and in the school hall. We aim to emerse the children in the amazing world of Space Science through a range of different STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) activities.
What does a Space Camp look like?
Instead of leaving at the end of the school day, the children change into comfy clothes and take part in a range of activities over the evening including night sky observations and physical astronaut training.
The next day, the children present their learning in a special assembly for their parents at 1:30pm and can then leave early (as a special treat) if they wish to.
